Principal
Location: R.I.S.E Academy (New Regional Safe School Opening 25-26 School Year)
Reports To: Jacob Smithers

Position Overview
The Principal of R.I.S.E. Academy is responsible for the leadership, administration, and daily operations of the school. This role ensures a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for students in grades 6-12 who require alternative education due to behavioral, social-emotional, or academic challenges. The Principal will lead staff in implementing trauma-informed practices, fostering resilience, integrity, support, and engagement—the four pillars of the academy.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & School Culture
Foster a positive, student-centered school culture aligned with R.I.S.E. Academy’s mission and pillars.
Implement trauma-informed and restorative practices to support student success.
Maintain high expectations for student behavior, academic progress, and personal growth.
Promote a collaborative and professional environment for staff development and teamwork.
Student Success & Program Oversight
Oversee the development and implementation of Individualized Optional Education Plans (IOEPs) for all students.
Monitor student progress through academic assessments, behavioral data, and attendance reports.
Ensure students receive necessary academic and SEL interventions.
Collaborate with partner schools to facilitate student reintegration when appropriate.
Staff Supervision & Development
Recruit, mentor, and evaluate teachers and support staff to ensure instructional excellence.
Provide professional development in trauma-informed teaching, behavior management, and differentiated instruction.
Encourage staff collaboration in creating engaging, high-quality instruction tailored to student needs.
School Operations & Compliance
Ensure compliance with state and regional regulations, including safety, discipline, and academic policies.
Manage school budgets, resources, and scheduling to optimize student success.
Oversee student discipline procedures, implementing fair and consistent restorative practices.
Ensure staff and students adhere to policies regarding attendance, technology use, and behavior expectations.
Family & Community Engagement
Foster positive relationships with parents and guardians to support student success.
Partner with local organizations, mental health providers, and community services to provide wraparound support.
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, school events, and available resources.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement.
Initial Evaluation Teacher Training (available upon hire)
Experience in alternative education, behavior intervention, or trauma-informed instruction preferred.
Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and team-building skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and external agencies.

Position Overview
R.I.S.E. Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate teacher to support 6th-8th or 9th-12th grade students in their journey toward academic and personal success. Our program provides students with a second chance at their education through a structured, four-step pathway to success. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with at-risk youth, skilled in teaching both Math and English Language Arts, and comfortable integrating online coursework through Edgenuity.
Key Responsibilities:
Directly teach Math and ELA to small class sizes (approximately 12 students at a time).
Facilitate and oversee additional coursework through Edgenuity, ensuring student engagement and progress.
Implement and adapt the Savvas and Newsela curriculum to meet student needs.
Provide individualized instruction and support to help students develop academic skills and confidence.
Maintain a structured and positive classroom environment that aligns with the program’s four-step success model.
Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff to track student progress and provide interventions as needed.
Communicate effectively with students, families, and school personnel to foster student growth and accountability.
Model and reinforce positive behavior expectations to support students in making successful transitions back to their home schools or post-secondary opportunities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (required).
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements in Math and/or ELA (preferred).
Experience working with alternative education, at-risk youth, or students needing academic intervention (preferred).
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction, particularly with Edgenuity.

Position Overview
The Paraprofessional at R.I.S.E. Academy plays a vital role in supporting students in grades 6-12 who require an alternative educational setting due to behavioral, social-emotional, or academic challenges. Working closely with teachers and staff, the Paraprofessional provides academic assistance, behavior support, and supervision to help students engage in learning and develop the skills necessary for success.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Classroom Assistance
Assist teachers in delivering instruction by working with individual students and small groups.
Reinforce academic lessons using direct instruction, digital curriculum, and hands-on learning strategies.
Support students in completing coursework through Savvas, Newsela, and Edgenuity platforms.
Provide positive encouragement and guidance to help students stay engaged in learning.
Behavior & Social-Emotional Support
Implement trauma-informed and restorative practices to support student behavior and emotional regulation.
Assist in managing classroom behavior by reinforcing expectations and redirecting students as needed.
Support students in developing coping strategies, resilience, and positive social interactions.
Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, and common areas to maintain a safe, structured environment.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with teachers, Student Success Coordinators, and administrators to meet student needs.
Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress, interventions, and behavior support plans.
Communicate effectively with staff about student behavior, engagement, and any concerns.
School Operations & Supervision
Assist with arrival, dismissal, and transitions to ensure a smooth school day.
Support students in following school policies related to technology, behavior, and classroom expectations.
Provide supervision during lunch, breaks, and other non-instructional times as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or 60+ college credit hours preferred.
Paraprofessional Educator License (PEL) required or ability to obtain one.
Experience working with at-risk youth, special education, or alternative education settings preferred.
Strong communication, patience, and ability to build positive relationships with students.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Student Success Coordinator

Position Overview
The Student Success Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the academic, emotional, and social success of students at R.I.S.E. This position is designed for an individual who is passionate about student success, committed to creating personalized academic pathways, and skilled in providing guidance and mentorship to diverse student populations. The Student Success Coordinator will collaborate with students, families, faculty, and partnering districts to ensure students receive the appropriate academic support and resources to meet their goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualized Academic/SEL Plans:
Develop and implement personalized academic and SEL success plans for each student, based on their unique needs, learning styles, and future goals.
Collaborate with students and educators to set academic and personal milestones, track progress, and adjust plans as necessary.
Provide weekly SEL lessons based on student needs
Credit Transfer and Academic Records:
Manage the transfer of credits between districts and schools, ensuring that academic progress is accurately reflected and communicated.
Track students’ academic history, ensuring that all transcripts, credit information, and academic data are correctly processed.
Progress Monitoring and Intervention:
Continuously monitor student progress, ensuring that they are meeting social, emotional, and academic benchmarks and goals outlined in their success plans.
Provide timely interventions and support when students fall behind or encounter obstacles.
Mentoring:
Act as a mentor and motivator, helping students overcome challenges and celebrating their academic successes.
Foster a positive, supportive relationship with students to enhance their confidence and resilience.
Family and District Liaison:
Serve as the main point of contact for students' families, providing regular updates on student progress, challenges, and achievements.
Work closely with families to ensure they are well-informed and engaged in their child’s education.
Collaborate with district representatives and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate communication and the smooth transfer of academic information.
Data Tracking and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of student progress, interventions, and academic adjustments.
Prepare reports for school leadership, serving districts, and families to evaluate student outcomes and areas for improvement.
Other Duties as Assigned:
Participate in school-wide initiatives and meetings, contributing to the ongoing development of the school’s academic and student support programs.
Perform other related duties as needed to support the success of the students and the school community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to connect with students, families, and faculty.
Demonstrated ability to build strong, supportive relationships with students.
Knowledge of alternative education systems, student behavior management, and mentorship.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations, families, and educational professionals.
