RI County Schools
Retraining requirements are connected to each individual’s license renewal cycle. All evaluators who have taken the initial evaluator pre-qualification training(s) must complete the retraining within their next 5 year renewal cycle following the cycle in which they completed the initial training.
Participants can use the Evaluator Retraining Academies for BOTH the evaluator retraining requirement and the annually required Administrator Academy. A person can complete both the Professional Practice Administrator Academy and the Student Growth Administrator Academy during the same year in order to fulfill evaluator retraining requirements; however, only one would meet the yearly Academy requirement.
The chart below provides a guide for determining when retraining must be completed.
If I took the initial pre-qualification training before I renewed my license in 2017 | Retraining must be completed by June 30, 2022 when I am due to renew my license |
If I took the initial pre-qualification training before I renewed my license in 2018 | Retraining must be completed by June 30, 2023 when I am due to renew my license |
If I took the initial pre-qualification training before I renewed my license in 2019 | Retraining must be completed by June 30, 2024 when I am due to renew my license |
If I took the initial pre-qualification training before I renewed my license in 2020 | Retraining must be completed by June 30, 2025 when I am due to renew my license |
For Example: Academies can be taken in any order within a license renewal cycle.
To meet the retraining requirements, you must complete specific approved administrator academies.

and a required student growth AA#3000

Teacher and Principal Evaluators: Take 1 Teacher Evaluation professional practice retraining and the principal evaluation #1865 and the required student growth retraining AA#3000
These can be taken in order during the renewal cycle.
Refreshers will also count as meeting your yearly minimum 1 AA requirement as an Administrator. If you take more than 1 AA in a year, the extras automatically enter as PD hours in your ELIS account toward your 100 hr/cycle requirement as an Administrator
If you switch from teaching to Admin in the middle of a cycle, the 5-year PD requirement will change.
If you have an evaluation credential, miss a refresher, and are now in a new cycle, you should complete the missing refresher/s before you evaluate. Do all other required refreshers in that cycle to maintain the credential/s and continue evaluations.
NOTE: You do not enter AAs manually into ELIS. The provider notifies you when to complete and submit a PD Evaluation in your ELIS account Action Center. Upon your evaluation submission, credit will populate automatically in your ELIS PD portal and also under Evaluator Credentials on your Credential page.
