This is an activity-oriented and audience participation session for teachers to learn how to develop and enrich lesson plans on Native American history and culture. Topics covered will include the use of hands-on, cross-curricular activities in social studies, math and language arts classroom. The evening session include computer experience allowing teachers to explore internet sources for lesson plans, web quests, virtual field trips, scavenger hunts, and PowerPoint presentations on Native Americans. On the second day teachers will participate in activities that will help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, receive instructional aid and creative lesson plans that can be used in their classrooms with their student. Teachers desiring grad credit will complete lesson plans for use in their own classrooms, 1 grad credit through Aurora University at an additional $100 is available. Day one will be held from 4:30 - 8:30 PM and Day two will be held from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

#9239 When Farmers Were Heroes: The Era of National Corn Husking Contests
In 2009 Heritage Documentaries, Inc.: a local group committed to telling stories of the past and present, completed the production of this 27 minute video documentary showcasing the traditional farm skill and values celebrated throughout the Midwest during corn husking contests…values like individualism, determination, work ethic and self-sufficiency. In this training teachers will receive a free copy of the DVD and a Teacher's Guide. Teachers will also receive "hands-on" experience on how to use the guide and plan and implement cross curricular unit and lesson plans in math, science, geography, social studies, and language arts in their classrooms.

Teachers will learn how to stimulate student's critical thinking and problem solving skills through the teaching of geography and social studies skills. IN this "hands on" session teachers will learn to create lesson plans that incorporate multiple intelligences, cooperative learning, and diverse learning styles and incorporate technology. It will include computer experience for teachers to explore the internet sources for lesson plans, webquests, scavenger hunts, virtual field trips, and PowerPoints for teaching geography and social studies more effectively in their classrooms. 1 grad credit will also be available at an additional cost of $100 through Aurora University. Day One will be from 4:30 - 8:30 PM and day two will be from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
